Through the kind
assistance of Rotarian Hans Hon, from the Port Alfred Rotary Club, we have installed a
5000-litre water tank at the Aids Orphanage to add to the existing two water tanks. The
entire region has a very unreliable and, at times, undrinkable, water supply. Therefore,
the installation of a water tank to harvest our precious rain water will provide valuable
drinking water to the orphaned children at Thokomala. At the same time we have connected
the fresh water from the tanks into the kitchen and bathroom in the house by means of a small pressure water-pump. Our involvement in
this project will be ongoing and we will be looking for partners from other Rotary Clubs
world-wide to assist financially in creating additional accommodation and better living
conditions for the AIDS orphans.
Thokomala
Foster Home in Marselle for AIDS orphans
The
AIDS orphange, which The Rotary Club of Kenton has named The Thokomala Project, hopes to
raise funds for the building of an orphanage in the Marselle Township. The project
represents a collaboration between Child Welfare SA / Kenton & Bushmans; the
Kenton/Diaz Anglican Church, Thokomala and Vukukhanye and The Rotary Club of Kenton. A
foster mother is responsible for the care of six Orphaned childred, and she is
supported by collaboration members, including a social worker operating from an office
attached to the home. Regular
monthly reports are submitted to the Department of Social Development and Child Welfare SA Kenton & Bushmans.
