The Klipfontein Pre-school is part of the Water Harvesting Project and has
received a 5000-litre rain water tank from Rotary Kenton as part of this programme. Through the kind assistance of
Rotarian Hans Hon, from the Port Alfred Rotary Club, we have installed a 5000-litre water
tank at The Klipfontien Pre-School. The entire area has a very unreliable and, at times,
undrinkable, water supply. Therefore, the installation of water tanks to harvest our
precious rain water will provide valuable drinking water to the children at Klipfontein.
In addition, various organizations including the Rotary Club of Kenton,
are hoping to extend and upgrade the Klipfontein Pre-schoolin the future. These premises will
provide an after-school center and full baby-care facility. Workshops for training
governing body members and staff, skills development and youth upliftment will be
facilitated in these premises. Presently Klipfontein pre-school is catering for 70
children from the three disadvantaged communities Ekuphumleni, Klipfontein and Marselle.
The new building
will consist of two new classrooms, an office/reception, extension to the current kitchen
and toilet block, covered walkway, play area, adequate security fencing. Indoor and
outdoor play and educational equipment is also required. On completion,Klipfontein Pre-school will
cater for 80 pre-school children, 12 babies under the age of 18 months and 60 children.
Vukukhanye is committed to providing on going management and administrative support to the
six crèches, in order to promote consistently high standards of education, proper
co-ordination and administration.
Project managers Jenny vd meulen and
Zelda Jacobs are raising funds towards the project on an on-going basis and have already
purchased outdoor play equipment and extended two toilets and two hand basins to the
existing building.
