TREE OF JOY - 2011 / 2012

December 2011.

Project Managers – Lee & David Slater.

The project ran from Friday 10th to Saturday 18th December 2010 and the Tree was located between the video shop and Tops Bottle Store.  Duty times were from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. and we asked for gifts for 150 recipients.  All the gifts were distributed before Xmas day.

What is the Tree of Joy?

The Tree of Joy is a Rotary community orientated project aimed at providing gifts to people, young and old, who seldom have the pleasure of receiving one for Christmas.

How does it work?

Charities and charitable organizations are approached to identify worthy recipients of gifts. They may be orphans, lonely adults, the poor, ill or infirm, or are simply people in need of a little love and care. A wish list is made up for the participating people and this is given to Rotary. Members of Rotary fill in special cards based on this list provided by the charity concerned.

A special Christmas tree is placed in a prominent place in Kenton on Sea early in December. This tree will be decorated and the cards will be positioned all over the tree. The site of the tree will be manned by Rotarians from December 10th -18th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and the public will be encouraged to take the cards, purchase the gifts indicated on the cards, have them wrapped, and then return them to Rotary for distribution to the person concerned before Christmas, via the charitable organization responsible.

The recommended value of gifts is between R100 and R150 so you will be providing excitement and joy to the recipient at an affordable cost. Just imagine the happy smile that you will have created on an individual who is unaccustomed to such goodwill. They will know that someone out there cares.

Rotary cares. Please support our efforts.
